Life Update: I’m a lawyer again & I… like it? Plus, why I canceled my bachelorette.

Okay, so it’s been a minute … so let’s do a little all-over-the-place life update.

First, I got a new job back in February. I’m a lawyer again…

And I know you’re all dying to know what I’ve been up to in the thrilling world of real estate law. But I’ll keep this short. I’m still a real estate attorney, and still primarily doing litigation, but this new role has given me the opportunity to branch out. I still do residential landlord-tenant work, but now I have a balanced plate that includes commercial landlord-tenant work, litigating more complex, nuanced issues, and even a ton of non-litigation work. I’ve been learning the ins and outs of leasing—both commercial and residential spaces— and license agreements for “pop-ups.” Yes, those cool, aesthetic pop-ups you save on TikTok and see all over places like SoHo in New York City. It’sbeen cool to see, and participate in, the work that goes into the brand experiences that look so effortless put together when it is all said and done.

I wouldn’t be a real lawyer if I didn’t including a shameless plug… So, if you’re in New York and need a real estate attorney — whether you’re buying, selling, leasing, or knee-deep in a dispute — Let’s chat.

I’d feel a little fake giving a run down of my life as a lawyer and not mentioning how weird the world feels right now — especially in the legal world. You’re not imagining it. Things are heavy. It’s confusing. It’s frustrating. And if you’re looking around and thinking, “Is the system even working anymore?” I hear you.

But here’s the thing: it is working. Not perfectly, not always quickly, and definitely not without flaws. But every day, I see lawyers show up for their clients. I see deals getting done, people getting help, and judges making decisions that move things forward. The system is still functioning — and at its best, it’s filled with smart, fair-minded people who genuinely want to help.

Now, let me throw in another obligatory legal disclaimer: I can’t give legal advice unless you’re actually my client (sorry!). BUT — I can be a sounding board. And if I’m not the right person to help, I probably know someone who is. The legal world can be intimidating, but it doesn’t have to be unreachable. We’re not all trying to confuse you with Latin phrases.

And with that, let’s talk about the thing that makes being a lawyer look like a cake-walk — wedding planning. I am in the THICK of it.

I thought I was dreaming when I saw the price of tablecloths listed as $89 A PIECE TO RENT, YES RENT, A TABLE CLOTH THAT I WILL NEVER SEE AGAIN.

I digress. I’m planning to share a full part 2 breakdown soon — maybe even some free templates or lists for my fellow brides-to-be.

Oh, and I officially canceled my Mexico bachelorette. Yup, just said “no thanks.” Between sky-high prices and the general “should there even be airplanes in the sky right now?” vibe, it just didn’t feel right. I’m still eyeing some destinations — maybe domestic but still cute and sunny? Open to suggestions — but would love a place that doesn’t require a passport and $900 flight that might get canceled 20 minutes before take off.

Anyway, that’s where I’m at. A little law, a little love, and a whole lot of lists.

Talk soon, and as always, thank you for reading.

Kate

P.S. Let me know what you want more of …. More bridal? More lawyer stuff? Send me a message on Insta, TikTok, or below. Okay, love ya bye.
